Lava from Kilauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes, is slowly moving through cracks in the earth toward a rural settlement on Hawaii's Big Island, which it might reach in about a week. The volcano has been continuously erupting since 1983. In the 1990s, about 200 homes were destroyed by lava flows from Kilauea. The last evacuations due to the volcanic lava took place in 2011.
